Microsoft Windows VS Linux

Windows 98, Millennium, XP, Vista and 7. These are some of the versions that I have tried already since I was still young. The versions are a lot. Theoretically, if i would ask 10 persons about the OS they use, only 1 or 2 persons will say that they use Linux-based OS. Why is that? Has the monopoly of Windows-based OS gone far?

I have two OS's in my laptop. A Windows 7 and a Linux Kubuntu. Personally, I use Windows more than the Linux. Why is that? I am a gamer. I play a lot of games like Dota, Splinter Cell and many more. Could it run in Linux? I doubt it would. As far as I have remembered, Linux couldn't read exe files. Sorry for the programmers who would negate on that statement as I am not sure. There is a program called Wine that would convert files running in Windows to be usable in Linux though I haven't used it.

I would like to differentiate these two OS and point out their strengths and weaknesses. Now these are my opinionated comparison:

Windows
Strengths
  • User-friendly
  • Compatible with the majority of applications
  • Could be installed with defense mechanism applications like Anti-Virus or Anti-Spywares
  • Elegant in Design
Weaknesses
  • Even with the security it is still prone to viruses
  • New releases are really expensive
  • Consumes a lot of memory
  • GUI is not that easy to modify
  • Often needs updates
Linux
Strengths
  • Has a built in compiler for programmers ease.
  • GUI could be modified
  • It is an open source thus giving the experts in programming to make their own versions
  • Even without the anti-virus, it is not prone to virus as you can just delete the virus yourself
  • Cute!
  • Could be installed for a really small amount of space. I installed mine for only 3 GB
  • Free and doesn't really need updates
Weaknesses
  • It is not really a user-friendly OS
  • Using this as a first time will be very hard as sometimes you still need to edit the working place
  • Not for a common school or work uses
  • Needs Wine for some applications in Windows to work here

These are my comparison between Windows and Linux. It is not really detailed as I want my comparsion to be personal and based on experience. In my comparison, it seems that Linux won but in reality, I use Windows. See the irony? I even saw one video clip in youtube that says "Where does a thief always come in? Of course in a Window." I really like Linux and I hope it becomes user-friendly and I really wish that I become one of the programmers that will contribute to the success of it.
